So you are headed to Disneyland
Before you start planning and buying. Ask yourself, are you a planner and researcher or a wing it type of person? If you are a wing it type of person, this might not be the blog for you. Or maybe you just want a bit of advice.
I know of several people who have winged it, and then come home and tell me it was a so so trip. But then I hear from others who planned for a year and had the most amazing time.
Learning the in's and out's can save you so much hassle especially if you are traveling with toddlers, oppionated elders or just a couple.
Christmas time last year, we started planning our trip to Disneyland, but this trip was going to include my in laws. They havent been to the park in decades and I wanted to make sure we had an amazing time.
First order of business, buy your mouse ears before you go. Much cheaper and frankly it will put you in the mood long before you arrive at the park. For me, the arrival to the park is magical and I am 40+ years old.
Rope drop as I told my in laws, is an amazing thing that not everyone gets to experience, its the happy birthday song just before you carve into the cake and open gifts. MAGIC!
Once we arrive at the park, we go to California Adventure and get fast passes for Radiator Springs. Once that is one, we can go on whatever ride. Once this ride is 15 minutes before we can ride, we get another fast pass for Radiator Springs, as I absolutely refuse to stand in a line for 2 hours.
Father in Law asked me why all those people are in line, I said, because they either dont care about their time, or, they didnt do their research. You get out of it what you put into it. As my honey tells his parents, she does the research because she doesnt want us waiting and having a kid or adult to have a melt down etc.
I am no expert on Disneyland, but, I believe trying to help others like others helped me. There are a million blogs on the subject of just Disneyland. If one person reads this and I've helped them, then im good.
Check out the Disneyland website, download the app. If you have picky eaters, you'll want to know ahead of schedule where places are to eat. We have a picky eater but the nice thing, if you eat outside say near New Orleans square you can grab food from wherever and sit wherever.
We mix our plates, there are three of us, and typically we buy two meals and split it, as the portions are pretty big.
Get fastpasses or use maxpass whenever you can, try to avoid the lines. If there is something you want to ride and you know its going to have a long line.. just wait... say at night, when Fantasmic starts, go to that ride, as most are trying to make their way thru the crowds or they are watching. Then head to Big Thunder, or Indiana Jones.
We are headed back to the park sometime next year. And im excited. This time we are going with my Mom and she has already stated we are going on Maters Jamboree and then Radiator Springs after we get our pass :)
Disneyland trips can be spendy and if you are like us, the word Frugal is in your language.
Suggestions:
Buy a gallon of water and fill up before you head to the park
Pack snacks in Gallon ziploc bags before you leave home, something for everyone if you are caught in a line or long crowd. I usually pack jerky, dried cranberries, string cheese, crackers, granola bars, trail mix that we made at home. Clif bars that we made at home just for the trip.
If you have stuck with me and read my post, thank you, if you have questions, feel free to ask.
